Age Concern's "Opening Doors in Central London"
Opening Doors in Central London Introduction:
Opening Doors in Central London is a partnership project involving Age Concerns in Camden, Hackney, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster to specifically meet the needs of older LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) people. The project is aimed at people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and are over the age of 50 and who live, work or socialise in the five boroughs.
The aims of the Project are to develop services for the older LGBT community that combat isolation through the provision of regular social activities, a telephone advice and signposting service, and a befriending scheme. The project will also provide information, guidance and training for other service providers, statutory and non-statutory, in order to help them develop appropriate and inclusive services for older LGBT people in the five boroughs, as well as volunteering opportunities to work with the groups and with one to one befriending activities.
The types of regular activities that are provided are monthly group events, exercise classes, computer classes, Information and Advice sessions with guest speakers, plus one off special events, like a strong older LGBT presence at London Pride, or outings and parties.
We will take referrals via email and phone. All we require is the clients’ permission to contact them. For further information please conact:
